Jenifer Firestone

Jenifer Firestone (JJ) is the inventor of Kiwi’s Climber and the founder of Better Instincts LLC which manufactures and sells this completely unique, modular, floor-to-ceiling cat climber. It requires no floorspace, no drilling, and installs in minutes. Kiwi’s Climber revolutionizes entertainment and exercise for indoor cats and helps to prevent and remedy destructive cat behavior often caused by boredom and inactivity.

Firestone invented Kiwi’s Climber 23 years ago when her characteristically small Cambridge, Massachusettes apartment would not accommodate oversized recreational equipment. It mounts to the end of a partition wall or doorway using no floorspace, no drilled holes in the walls, and installs without hardware or measuring. Her cats loved it, scrambled up and down (at all hours of the day and night,) and apprehended any feather toy or rampant laser light dot bouncing tantalizingly around the climber. Her cats got a great 10 minute exercise and entertainment workout, 3 times a day which, along with love and affection made for happy and less destructive kitties.

She moved from Atlanta to Asheville 6 months ago and joined AAWNC to let apartment owners, managers, and tenants know about this great asset to indoor cats and their humans. She wants apartment managers to know that Kiwi’s Climber can help avoid costly repairs to cat damaged carpet, woodwork, and walls.

She retired after 45 years of social work, most recently in hospice and geriatrics while caring for her 90+ year old parents for the last 6 years of their lives.

At the ripe age of 65 when Medicare and COVID-related twelve-hour work days allowed (and forced) her to retire from social work she started her small business manufacturing and selling Kiwi’s Climbers.

Firestone is anxious to spread the word about this important asset to the lives of indoor cats, their humans, and their landlords.
